Leon Lu Lih Youn
Managing Partner

Leon has over 10 years of legal practice in areas of corporate advisory, investment schemes, private equity, intellectual property, IT and software, property, probate, and property law.

Leon earned his law degree at the London University and read in chambers at Allen & Gledhill. Thereafter he joined Messrs Mah Weng Kwai & Associates as Legal Assistant. Leon then joined Messrs Halim Hong & Quek as a Partner taking charge of the litigation and corporate department for 2 years, and then joined Chur Associates as partner for 5 years.

In his earlier years of practice, Leon ventured extensively into litigation matters such as disputes between the directors, contentious probate proceedings, defamation, injunctive remedies etc. Leon also has valuable experience in handling repeating e- commerce frauds. Aside from monetary recovery by civil actions, he laid out strategies for preventive measures to curb any future mischief by targeting the masterminds of the crimes. Considering his proactive and valuable input, the Royal Malaysian Police has set up entrapment exercises to arrest the wrongdoers. These exercises have been successful with the frequency of fraud cases reduced drastically.

After setting up his own firm, Leon has since advised a number of private equity arrangements. Recent highlights include a private equity exercise which raised RM988 million for an oil palm plantation project.

He is also pioneer advisor in mobile content industry and has developed his knowledge in the industry at the same pace with the emergence and development of the telecommunication and electronic contents industries. His past anchor projects in this area of practice include the lobby for changes in laws for a more industry friendly fashion with the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). He has been advising mobile content industrialists which are public listed corporations in Malaysia, Australia, Singapore and Indonesia on retainer and consultant basis. He is currently the lead legal advisor of a number of multinational corporations in telecommunication industry, including China Communications Services Corporation Limited (HK.552), Hitachi Ebworx, Oppo Electronics Corporation, TVB Group, Unified Communications Holding Public Limited etc.

On the area of corporate advisory, he was credited for designed and customise Employee Stock Ownership Plan for several multinational corporations. He also offers corporate retainer for corporate exercise and expansion, including establishing franchising and direct- selling on regional scale.

Leon is an experienced legal practitioner with the capabilities, temperament and judgment to provide astute solution for the clients. The logical creativity of Leon makes his work both hands-on and spot on.

Aside legal practice, he stands in as a panel lawyer in several organisations and volunteer endeavours, including acting as an volunteered counsel for “Condemning Batang Kali Massacre Committee” which brought the UK government to court,  National SMI Consultative Centre, Malaysian Basketball Association, Malaysian Dramatic Art Society etc. He has also been invited to pen several columns in Nan Yang Siang Pau and China Press since December 2005, expressing legal opinions and thoughts on contemporary social and international issues. He also appears as a regular guest speaker in Ai Fm, the government- operated Chinese radio station, to comment on contemporary social and political issues.

Ong Mun Siong

Mun Siong joined Messrs L Y Lu & Co in 2010 after working with Messrs Sidek Teoh Wong & Dennis for a tenure of almost 4 years practicing largely on areas of conveyancing, banking and commercial laws. During his tenure with that firm, he gained much experience in commercial and consumer banking and real estate transactions of which including the purchase, sale, leasing and financing of residential, industrial, retail and office properties. Mun Siong is also experienced in the area of the acquisition, development, financing and sale of commercial property.

Mun Siong is presently appointed as legal adviser for some of our business partners in providing them corporate advisory services including legal procedure consultation, current government policy and legal documentation in perfecting their corporate transactions. Mun Siong is also involves in providing foreign corporate clients a complete corporate advisory services in starting up business in Malaysia such as advising on the current government policy, assisting on setting up of local incorporated companies on the respective areas of business and procuring of the relevant licenses or permit required from the authorities in Malaysia.

Mun Siong was admitted into Malaysian Bar in 2006 after 11 years of military service with the Malaysian Armed Forces which earned him the rank of Captain. During the career as a military officer, Mun Siong was appointed as a member of court martial and also worked as defence council in the court martial proceedings. Mun Siong received his Bachelor of Laws from University of London in 2004 and Certificate of Legal Practice in 2005.

Wan Teh Fatimah Binti Dato’ Wan Ismail

Wan Teh graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in the year 2007 and had undergone her pupilage at Messrs C.L. Boo& Associates, Kuala Lumpur and was exposed to the various areas of law mainly in Hire Purchase. It is during her pupilage period, she found her calling in the property market that leads her to pursue practice in conveyancing.

On 18th July 2008, she was called to the Bar in High Court of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur and in August of the same year, she joined Messrs Sidek Teoh Wong & Dennis’ Conveyancing department as a conveyancing lawyer focusing on transfer of properties and conventional and Islamic loans.

Two years later, in September 2010, she joined Messrs Kamaruzaman Arif Amran & Chong, as Head of Conveyancing Department, handling primarily the commercial and conveyancing matters, mining laws and debt restructuring exercise. She was involved in a debt restructuring process for a well known Corporation worth about RM 400 Million in favour of a Selangor State Government Linked Company and a year later, Wan Teh left Messrs Kamaruzaman Arif Amran& Chong to join us to further diversify the firm.

Christopher Vun Shu Tong

Christopher Vun was called to the Bar in July 2008, even though he was new in the legal fraternity he have experienced and was exposed to various areas of laws during his pupilage at Messrs. Adnan Sundra & Low. Due to his performance he have enjoyed the confidence of his pupil master and senior partners to the extent he was roped in to assists the senior partners in some of the high profile cases.

To name a few he was involved in the suits brought by Brunei Investments Agency and Securities Commission against certain high profile member of society and public listed companies for market manipulation.

During his chambering period he was also involve in the due diligence exercises for some mergers, acquisitions and takeoversof public listed companies. He in fact is the first pupil in chamber retained by Messrs. Adnan Sundra & Low in their litigation department for the last 6 years.

Having completed his pupilage he joined Messrs.The Law Office of CK Ng (formerly known as Messrs. Wong & Associates) in early 2009. In this firm he had illustrated his dedications to his professional work where in short period of time he is able to conduct hearings independently in all levels of Malaysian Courts up to the Federal Court with positive outcome. In recognition to his abilities and dedications he was made a partner in Messrs. The Law Office of CK Ng in 2012.

As for the areas of work, he has wide experience in corporate litigations and to name a few he was involved in advising shareholders on minority oppression under Section 181 Companies Act, resisting appointment of receiver and managers, resisting the appointment of provisional liquidator, obtaining and setting aside injunctive reliefs such as Anton Pillar Order and prohibitory injunctions, initiating derivative actions under the Common Law and under the Companies Act 1965, defending subrogation actions brought by insurers against 3rd party, land lord and tenant disputes, matrimonial proceedings such as divorce and annulment of marriages as well as bankruptcies and execution of judgment matters.

He was also involved in suit based on fraudulent land transaction under Section 340 National Land Code and numerous suits for breach of contracts, torts and in one of the tortious case he handled, he have successful defended a corporate client after a full trial in a negligence suit involving fatal accident.

Yap Ann Swee, Ryan

Firmly believing on the above quote, Ryan Yap, an enthusiastic young lawyer who diversify in three legal areas in his practice commenced his legal journey after he obtained his legal degree from University of London. He started off as a paralegal executive for Messrs. Chur Associates and thereafter upon obtaining his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) he studied in chambers at Messrs. Teh & Lee. Ryan Yap was called to the Malaysian Bar on September 2011.

During his paralegal years in Messrs Chur Associates, Ryan was exposed to property conveyancing matters and was also given the opportunity to handle files from ground zero till completion. Given this valuable experience, he was able to grasp the nitty-gritty procedures required when dealing with conveyancing matters together with authority bodies.

After completing his pupillage with Messrs. Teh & Lee, Ryan was retained to be put in charge for a few project development with prominent developers around Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Jalan Tun Razak areas. Moreover, Ryan also handled both residential and commercial tenancy matters which includes commercial tenancies for Mid Valley Megamall and The Gardens Mall. To further enhance his conveyancing portfolio, he was also involved in both corporate and commercial loan advising and documentations,

During this tenure with Messrs. Teh & Lee, Ryan also handled litigation matters which includes landlord-tenant disputes, distress action, property possession, and bankruptcy and debt recovery execution procedures.

In addition to the above, Ryan also ventures into the corporate section of the legal field where he handled various Initial Public Offering (IPO) and Reverse Take-over (RTO) exercises which includes conducting discovery due-diligence, drafting prospectus, share-sale agreement and was also involved with other corporate capital exercises such as Private Placement and Rights Issues.

Ryan then left Messrs. Teh & Lee to join Messrs. Jerald Gomez & Associates, a prominent litigation firm where he was given the opportunity to deal with both criminal and civil litigation up to Federal Court matters. His tenure in Messrs. Jerald Gomez & Associates has greatly reinforced and strengthens his negotiation and advocacy skills.

On his non-legal side, Ryan holds an Associates Diploma in Piano Solo from Trinity College London and ABRSM Grade 8 in both Piano and Music Theory. Ryan also possesses Yamaha Music School Advance Certificates for Piano, Electone and Music Fundamentals.

Patrick Peck

Patrick Peck Chee Yang

Having obtained certificate in Legal Practice in 2013, Patrick joined Messrs L Y Lu & Co later in the same year as pupil, and mainly served under litigation department. It was during this time that he was put under guidance of our litigators to the various fields that we practise in the nexus of civil litigation.

Patrick was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in late 2014. In his first year of practice, he has independently handled matters such as winding up of companies, hearing of contested interlocutory applications, appellate matters in the High Court, bankruptcy proceedings and execution of judgment from scratch to completion while being also actively involved in other matters which involve landlord-tenant disputes, management corporations/joint management bodies, order for sale of immovable property by Court, goods sold and delivered, industrial relations, contractual disputes and also matrimonial proceedings such as divorce.

Lee Key Sze
Legal Assistant

Key Sze graduated in 2013 from University of Liverpool (LL.B. (Hons)). She obtained Certificate of Legal Practice in 2014 and completed her pupilage with Messrs Shook Lin & Bok. Thereafter, she was admitted to the High Court of Malaya as an Advocate and Solicitor in 2015.


She joined the firm as an Legal Associate in 2015 and is currently handles conveyancing matters on various aspects including housing project and development, sub-sales on various types of properties, loan & security documentations for various banks and financial institutions , tenancy agreement and other general conveyancing matters.

After having completed his LLB Hons degree at Aberystwyth University in Wales and subsequently acquired his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP), Darren has joined Messrs. L Y Lu & Co in March 2015 and undergone his pupillage under the supervision of the firm’s Managing Partner, Leon Lu. During his pupillage, he was given the opportunity to expose himself to matters and transactions in the field of corporate and commercial law.

Darren was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia in March 2016. He is currently practicing under the firm’s corporate department led by Leon Lu whereby his areas of practice cover corporate and commercial transactions with respect to private equity fund raising exercise, joint ventures, corporate governance, licensing and regulatory approvals, drafting and reviewing of commercial contracts and papers and corporate advisory focusing on corporate exercise which extends to industrial relations and employment law.
